His training was provided through an “Integrated Fire and Recreation” internship by the Student Conservation Association (SCA) and the U.S. Forest Service.
Spencer is conducting a variety of trail and developed recreation opportunities. The primary responsibilities include prepping prescribed burn areas and the option to fight wild land fires when they occur. Fire piqued Grady’s interest while at Beloit College when he joined TKE in their annual prescribed prairie burn. He thus learned prescribed fire suppression tactics through a hands-on experience.
